Health Care Reform

Our national problem with healthcare requires a comprehensive solution that only federal action can provide. The AFL-CIO Executive Council issued a statement at it's March 2007 meeting calling for the enactment of federal health care reform that achieves universal coverage, comprehensive, and affordable coverage, choice of providers, financing through shared responsibility, effective cost controls, and should not undermine existing coverage. AFSCME supports federal legislation that supports these principles such as the Medicare For All Act drafted by Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) and the AmeriCare Health Care Act drafted by Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA).

By passing the attached resolution,"AFSCME's Health Care Reform Blueprint For 2007-08," the IEB has set a course to make health care reform a key issue in the presidential campaigns and debates. We will keep you informed as that health reform campaign is rolled out.
